Hindu Society of Beaumont celebrated “Maha Shivaratri”

Hindu Society of Beaumont celebrated “Maha Shivaratri” with gaiety and fervor
at Millwoods Milticultural & Seniors Centre, Edmonton last week.

Maha Shivaratri ’The Great Night of Shiva’ is a Hindu festival celebrated
annually in honor of the deity Shiva.

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival is observed on the fourteenth day
of the first half (night start with darkness – waning) of the lunar month of
Phalguna.

The festival commemorates the wedding of Shiva and Parvati.
More than 300 devotees enjoyed the festivities and mahaparsadam.
