Asian Star- Praphul Chander (P.C.) Sharma

Native Village/Country parent’s background:

I hail from Ambala, Haryana, India.

My mother, (Late) Smt. Pushpa Sharma was a School Teacher teaching Hindi in a Government school and my father, (Late) Shri Prem Chand Sharma was a proud Soldier in Indian Army. Both my parents belonged to Ambala city, Haryana. My father’s roots come from a village named Barouli (Kaur Kaur), Derabassi, District Patiala, Punjab.

Your early education:

My early education from 1-7th standard started in village Panjokhra Sahib and 8-10th standard in village Shehzadpur in District Ambala as my family moved due to my mother’s transfer.

Your career advancement initiatives and present occupation:

I completed my B.Sc.(Hons) and M.Sc.(Hons) in Chemistry from Panjab University Chandigarh and M.Tech in Oil Technology from Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. 

After joining Private Sector in Ludhiana in 1986-90, I joined Government of Haryana as Project Officer in 1990. Subsequently I joined International Solar Alliance in 2017 and still working as an International Civil Servant till now.  

International Solar Alliance(ISA) with 124 member countries is the first Intergovernmental treaty based International Organisation having its headquarters in India. 

I am happily settled in Faridabad, Haryana, India

Your regret in Life:

No regrets. Accepted life as it came. Sometimes, I feel I was not ambitious!

Pick any one of the best achievements:

I am perhaps the First State Government Officer of India rose to the level of International Civil Servant. I beam with pride that this is the best achievement for me who started his career with modest means.

Any comments on modern culture:

Change is always good. Most of the Indians are a good mix of modern outlook with traditional ways.

What brought you success?

Sincerity to my duties with sense of responsibility, lots of hard work, patience and family support. There is no alternative to hard work. Hard work with patience will always help in achieving the goals and reaching the pinnacle. 

Are you willing to help upcoming professionals and how?

Yes. I inspire young professionals to set their goals, make them learn to take responsibility of their lives without blaming their circumstances. Also, I preach to youngsters that “Best is yet to come” which motivate them to go extra mile to achieve their career goals. 

Your message for Canadians of Asian Origin:

There is no better place than India (except cleanliness)

However, excel where ever you are and there are no short cuts to success.
