Asian Star- Megha Sharma

Native Village/Country

I was born in New Delhi and raised in Chandigarh and New Delhi, India, before moving to Calgary, Canada, at the age of 15. I consider both Canada and India to be my native homes, as they each have shaped who I am today.

Your Early Education

I completed my High School education in Calgary and pursued further studies at the University of Calgary (B.Comm.) and later earned my law degree (LLB) from the University of Windsor.

When & Why You came to Canada

When I was 15, my parents made the selfless decision to relocate to Canada in hopes of giving me a brighter future.

Your career advancement initiatives, volunteer work and present occupation

As the owner of Laws & Beyond, a law firm catering to several areas including litigation, I have successfully taken on complex cases against prominent opponents such as Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Health Services, Global Oil & Gas companies, large Corporations, Politicians, and challenging spouses.

Your Regret in Life

There were times when situations were not in my favor and were hurting my self-respect and dignity. I regret having tried to compromise in such circumstances, and it took me time to move forward.

Pick Any One of Your Best Achievements

One of my most meaningful achievements is my journey as a mother to my special needs son, Maadhav. Balancing his unique needs with my professional responsibility to represent clients with dedication has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. This experience has shaped my resilience, empathy, and sense of purpose.

Did you face discrimination?

As a visible minority and a special needs mother, I have faced unique challenges—but Canada’s inclusive and supportive culture has empowered me to overcome them and thrive

Are You Happy in Canada?

Yes, I am truly happy in Canada. The country’s values of inclusion, respect, and opportunity have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.

Calgary, in particular, feels like home—I find joy in its natural beauty, diverse community, and the precious moments I share with my son especially during our visits to beaches in and around the city.

Your take on Canada’s Culture

Canada’s multiculturalism is one of its greatest strengths. It has enriched my life by creating a sense of belonging, fostering acceptance, and providing the freedom to build both a fulfilling career and a nurturing environment for my family.

What about Canada’s Weather

Calgary’s seasonal changes can be unpredictable, but have learned to adapt and appreciate the unique beauty each season offers. I particularly cherish autumn—its crisp air and vibrant colors make nature walks with my son, Maadhav, even more special.

What Brought You Success in Canada?

My success is attributed to hard work, resilience, and determination, as well as the support of my family, friends and community.

Are You Willing to Help New Immigrants and How?

As someone who has navigated Cultural and Professional transitions, I am happy to help new immigrants find their footing in Canada.

Your Message for Canadians of Asian Origin

Stay true to your roots while embracing the richness of Canadian Culture. Build strong networks, uplift one another, and prioritize family—these values have been the foundation of my journey and my success.
