5Jammu: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan  and at least eleven civilians were left injured after Pakistani forces violated ceasefire along the international border in RS Pura and Arnia sub sectors of Jammu.
Several houses are also said to have been damaged in the ceasefire.
Assistant sub inspector AK Upadhyaya, who received injuries after being hit in the ceasefire, was rushed to a nearby government hospital.
“The exchange of fire mainly took place in RS Pura sector, and went on till about 11:30 pm on Tuesday night. There was intermittent firing in Arnia,” Indian Express quoted BSF Jammu frontier deputy inspector general, Dharmender Pareekh as saying.
Singh said that shelling from the Pakistan side was still ongoing in some areas of RS Pura sector.
Heavy exchange of gunfire are on for the last 24 hours.
In the wake of escalated tension and continuing shelling, the border people are asked not to venture out of their houses and take all precautionary measures. Pakistani shellings in civilian areas have once again created panic among the border people.
A heavy volley of mortar shells were also fired in Sai, Devigarh and Sohagpur area in Arnia sub sector.
The international border in R.S. Pura and Naushera sector of Jammu region has been rough over the past week.
Recently, a six-year-old boy and a BSF soldier were killed in heavy shelling and firing by Pakistani troops in RS Pura sector earlier. In an another incident, BSF jawan Gurna, Singh, who was hit in the sniper attack in Hiranagar sector along the International Border in Kathua district on Friday night, had died late on Saturday.
Multiple ceasefire violations have been reported along the International Border and Line of Control after India conducted surgical strikes across the border in Pakistan Occupid Kashmir to target staging areas for terrorists last month.
Pakistan has, however, denied the cross-border raids.
