New Delhi: The Supreme Court is all set to hear a batch pleas challenging the Allahabad High Court’s 2010 verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute in a few minutes from now.
A three-judge bench, comprising of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph will hear the matter amid growing demands from certain sections, including the ruling BJP, to paved way for a law allowing the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
In 2010, the Allahabad High Court had divided the disputed land on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid area into three parts. In a 2:1 majority ruling, the court ordered that the 2.77 acres of land be partitioned equally among three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
On September 27, the SC had declined to refer to a five-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of the observations in its 1994 judgment that a mosque was not integral to Islam.

The entire hearing was over in two minutes. The top court refused to comment on whether daily hearing will take place in January 2018.

“We believe in God. We believe in PM Modi. Ram Mandir construction should begin soon,” Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das tells Zee News, adding that “We don’t call any political party or leaders. Our belief is in God, who’ll solve the situation.”
Mahant Das is one of the petitioners in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.

“I think we should take a review in December to see if Ram Temple matter is going to be quickly adjourned or again Congress lawyers will find some other interlocutory application to delay the matter. If it’s going to be delayed then we’ll have to take a call,” says BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

BJP Kisan Morcha national president Virendra Singh Mast has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate the process of enacting a law that will pave the way for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. “The BJP is committed towards building the Ram temple. A majority of people in the country want a grand Ram temple to be built in Ayodhya. The Modi government should take the initiative for making a law for the construction of the Ram temple. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also echoed the same sentiments earlier.”

Ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on the Ayodhya land dispute case on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Mohsin Raza, Muslim cleric Maulana Sufiyan and Zafaryab Jilani of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) have expressed faith in the top court and said that they will abide by its order.
“Chief Justice constitutes the bench and he also fixes the dates for the hearing. We don’t know what will be the observation of the Chief Justice. Whether the bench will be changed or it will be the same. We cannot say what will be the fate of the case. It is already proceeding in the Supreme Court. The court will handle the case in its own way. The court cannot be influenced by public statements or any person. Proceedings need not be governed by the statements of the leaders,” said Jilani, who is also the convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC).
