Parent’s Background:

My father (Late) Prof. R. C. Paul was an Academician, internationally acclaimed Chemist, and retired as the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

My mother (Late) Mrs. Bimla Paul was an Academician, taught briefly at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Your early education:

Chandigarh has been the City where I have got my complete education.  Carmel Convent School and Government Home Science College were the Institutions which took me from my early education to Post Graduation.  I obtained my Ph.D. from Microbiology Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Your career advancement initiatives, volunteer work and present occupation

I took up a career in teaching in a Post Graduate College which made me a lifelong learner.  Continuous participation and organization of academic conferences, workshops, seminars and working in research projects helped me navigate my career path in a way which was very satisfying.

Attaining the role of the Principal of my College made me lead initiatives to build a productive learning environment in the Institution and attain its National and International recognition.

After retirement in 2015, I continue to volunteer my services as Member of Managing Committee of Ankur School, Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh, Governing Body of Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Chandigarh Kendra Committee, Managing Committee of Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Chandigarh and I have been Editor of Nutrition News ‘N” Views, a Publication of Indian Dietetic Association from 2011-2021, till its publication stopped.

Your regret in Life: None.

Pick any one of the best achievements:

I obtained Gold Medal in Masters while studying at Govt. Home Science College, Chandigarh.

Subsequently taught at my Alma Mater for 32 years and retired from the same Institution as Principal.

I feel, this is the rare feat in anybody’s life and am really nostalgic about this.

Any comments on modern culture:

Easy access to knowledge, better communication and technology, conveniences in day to day life are the big advantages of today’s culture.  This impact should bring positive changes, foster social cohesion and keep the value system of society intact.

What brought you success: Honesty and Sincerity towards career goals.

Are you willing to help upcoming professionals and how?

Yes, am doing so continuously by mentoring and guiding my students and whosoever seeks help, in carving and shaping their career paths.   I help them in obtaining jobs in teaching and research fields. 

Your message for Canadians of Asian Origin:

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which means that the world is a family, is the message of India for humanity. Canadians of Indian origin should follow this in spirit and actions.  Be proud of your Motherland and make Canada proud of you too.  Preserve the traditions, value systems, heritage and culture of India.
