Asian Star- Lokesh Sharma

Lokesh Sharma

Native Village/Country parent’s background:

I was born at Sansarpur Terrace and raised in Pathankot, Punjab. My father, (Late) Shri Narotam Lal Sharma, served in the Indian Air Force at Adampur and Pathankot before moving to Talwara, Punjab, where he worked at the Ranjit Sagar Dam. My mother, originally from Chamba, Himachal has always been the guiding force of our family and dedicated her life as a homemaker.

Your Early Education: I began my early education in village Jugial, Pathankot, and later completed my Bachelor of Arts from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

When & Why You came to Canada: My journey to Canada began through my elder brother, (Late) Shri Chander Sekhar Sharma, who immigrated in 1999. Sponsored under the family class, I arrived in Calgary at 2004 along with my mother and younger sister.

Your career advancement initiatives, volunteer work and present occupation: Since 2005, I have been working with Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) in the Administration Department, building a rewarding and stable career. Alongside my professional work, community service has always been an important part of my life. I have volunteered extensively, serving as Vice President of the South Asian Lion’s Club and contributing for many years to the Hindu Society of Calgary in various leadership roles—including Vice President, Board of Trustees member, the youngest-ever Chairperson and now Trustee Secretary of the organization. My volunteer spirit extends to ISKCON Calgary, local Gurughars, and various other religious and cultural societies in the city. I have also contributed to local ethnic media, working as a host for 94.7 FM Fairchild Radio Calgary and ASIA TV.

Your Regret in Life: The greatest regrets of my life are the early loss of my father when I was only 14 and the passing of my elder brother in 2010. Their absence has left a lasting void, but their memories continue to guide my values and dedication.

Pick Any One of Your Best Achievements: Among my proudest achievements is receiving the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025, a recognition of my ongoing commitment to community service in Canada.

Were You Ever Discriminated? Nope.

Are You Happy in Canada? Throughout my time in Canada, I have never faced discrimination. Instead, I am grateful for the opportunities this country has given me to build a meaningful career and a fulfilling life.

Any Comments on Canada’s Culture: I deeply appreciate Canadian Culture, where diversity is embraced and people from all backgrounds live together with mutual respect.

Any Comments on Canada’s Weather:  Canada’s weather, with its snowy winters, vibrant springs, warm summers, and colourful autumns, continues to fascinate me—each season painting the landscape in a unique and beautiful way.

What Brought You Success in Canada: My success in Canada has been shaped by my work with both immigrant and mainstream communities, supporting Provincial growth and contributing to the fabric of the country.

Are You Willing to Help New Immigrants and How? I actively help newcomers by connecting with them through Religious Organizations and community groups that support immigrants. It is always my intent to guide them, encourage them, and help them establish themselves confidently in their new home.

Your Message for Canadians of Asian Origin: We are fortunate to live in a Culturally rich Country that values Diversity. Let us continue to support one another, uphold our Cultural pride, and contribute positively to Canada. Together, we can ensure that our community remains strong, united, and successful.
