Please tell us about your roots and family background.

I was born in Sirhind, Punjab. My father, Captain Gurdev Singh Bal, served in the Indian Army and later co-owned the Anandpur Sahib Bus Service in Patiala. My mother was a devoted homemaker who nurtured strong family values and discipline at home.

Where did you complete your education?

I completed my early schooling at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) followed by Grade 12 at Government College, Jagraon, Punjab. I later earned my MBBS degree from Government Medical College, Patiala, Punjab.

When and why did you decide to move to Canada?

I immigrated to Canada in 2000. My objective was to explore growth opportunities in North America and to build a better future for the coming generations.

What is your current professional role?

I currently serve as CEO of Paramount Agro Group Ltd. and Paramount Agro Industries Inc., which are among the largest grain companies in Alberta.

How have you contributed beyond business?

Through our enterprises, we have significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral trade between India and Alberta. Over time, I have also been honoured with recognition as the “Father of Canadian Bovine Genetics.” Community service remains central to my life and work.

Can you tell us about your philanthropic initiatives?

Charity is deeply ingrained in my values. Through the Guru Nanak Peace Foundation, we actively support social, humanitarian, and community-driven initiatives. Serving society is both a responsibility and a blessing.

Your Regret in Life:

None at all. Waheguru has blessed me abundantly and given me opportunities to serve society in meaningful ways.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Supporting our seniors and participating in their initiatives gives me immense joy. Their heartfelt smiles are my greatest reward and the achievement I value most.

Did you ever face discrimination in Canada?

Never. Canada welcomes everyone with open arms and offers equal opportunities to individuals who live by ethics and integrity.

Are You Happy in Canada?

Absolutely100 percent.

How do you view Canada’s multicultural culture?

Multiculturalism is one of Canada’s greatest strengths. It provides a level playing field for immigrants. Every culture has positives and challenges; ultimately, it is the individual who chooses the path forward.

What are your thoughts on Canada’s weather?

Canada offers all four seasons to enjoy. Winters can be harsh initially, but with time, one adapts and even learns to enjoy them.

What has been the key to your success in Canada?

There are no shortcuts. Hard work, persistence, focus, integrity, and ethical conduct are essential—not only for success, but also for giving back to society.

Are you willing to help new immigrants? How?

Yes, certainly. Through our ventures, we allocate significant resources for community welfare and charitable causes. We strive to live by Baba Nanak’s principle of “Daswand”—sharing a portion of what we earn for the benefit of others.

What message would you like to give to Canadians of Asian origin?

Avoid shortcuts—they only cut your journey short. Take steady steps in the right direction, and success will follow. Volunteerism and charity are the backbone of Canadian society. Be compassionate and help the less fortunate whenever you can.
