Weekend events call for empty stomachs and dancing shoes

Taste of the Danforth and beyond in a list of what’s going down in Toronto this weekend.
Get outside, Toronto! Temperatures will be headed back to their normal highs of 27 C and with that a pleasant weekend to enjoy street eats and dancing on the streets with events scattered around the city.
Taste of the Danforth, Aug 5-7: Opa! Get your stomachs ready. Krinos’ annual Taste of the Danforth brings out the best of Greektown eats to the streets. Entering their 23{+ }rd year, there is anticipated to be 1.65 million people dropping by for a weekend of live souvlaki, and gyros stuffed with fries.
Danforth Ave. from Broadview Ave to Jones Ave. will be closed from Friday at 11 a.m. until Monday, Aug. 8 at 1 a.m.
Jerk Fest, Aug 5-7: Fried plantains, jerk chicken, good vibes! Jerk Fest will be taking over Centennial Park in Etobicoke all weekend. Live music, dancing, and a lot of great eats are underway as Toronto’s Caribbean cuisine takes the spotlight.
Summerworksuntil Aug 14:SummerWorks continues the festival of theatre, dance, music, and live art at locations all over the city. Over 500 artists, and 60 performance projects, the festival ends on Aug. 14.
Time Festival On Aug. 6, Fort York is hosting Embrace’s annual music festival with international acts Run the Jewels, Joey Bada$$, and Kehlani headlining the outdoor dance party. Canadian beatmakers Ryan Hemsworth and Harrison will also be on deck on Saturday.
Humber Bay Shores Waterfront Festival: Calling all ages — on Aug. 6 the fifth annual waterfront festival will bring talent shows, music, farmer’s market booths and a whole lot of entertainment on Toronto’s west end. The festival takes place on Marine Parade Dr.
Remember to prepare for road closures, as well as a TTC scheduled subway closure. The Yonge-University line will be closed from St. George Station to Union Station on Saturday.
