Op Bluestar anniversary: Akal Takht jathedar faces protest, pro-Khalistan slogans during ‘sandesh’

Radical Sikhs want Giani Gurbachan Singh removed from post of Akal Takht jathedar, say he has lost their trust.
Amritsar : There was ruckus at the Golden Temple on Tuesday morning when Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh faced protests and pro-Khalistan slogans from radical Sikhs in the gathering as he delivered his annual sandesh (message) on the 33rd anniversary of Operation Bluestar at Akal Takht.
As soon as Giani Gurbachan Singh began his address, slogans against him and pro Khalistan were raised. Dhian Singh Mand, the acting jathedar appointed by radical groups during the Sarbat Khalsa (a religio-political congregation of Sikhs) in 2016, and SAD (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann wanted to address the gathering.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) denied them the public address system so a supporter of Mand broke a speaker at the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs.
The SGPC task force and police in plainclothes kept a watch.
Later, Mand’s supporters made arrangements and he read out the message in front of the Akal Takht in the presence of Mann and Baljit Singh Daduwal, who was appointed acting jathedar of the Takht Damdama Sahib by the radical Sikhs in 2016.
As Mand read out his sandesh, pro-Khalistani slogans were raised.
“Nobody has come here to listen to Giani Gurbachan Singh. He has lost our trust. This is why there were protests. We need to remove him.”
