Nabha jailbreak: Gangster Sekhon wanted to do something unique, operate from abroad, reveals chargesheet

7Gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon’s desire to do something unique which militants could not achieve during terrorism days in Punjab led to the Nabha jailbreak, reveals the challan presented by Punjab Police in a Nabha court, copies of which were given to the accused on Tuesday.
The accused also wanted to operate from foreign shores by joining hands with Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh Mintoo, who has links with militants settled abroad.
The trial has been now been shifted to Patiala as Punjab Police have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, which can only be tried in a sessions court.
“The accused had planned to shift their base to other courtiers after fleeing from the jail,” said Nabha deputy superintendent of police Jaskirat Singh Ahir. He said the challan had been presented on basis findings by the special investigation team (SIT).
During his stay in the Nabha jail, Sekhon befriended Mintoo and expressed his desire that he wants to do something unique which no militant had done before. To this, Mintoo floated the idea of jailbreak. Earlier, the Sekhon had planned to flee from a court during a hearing in a murder case, stated the police challan.
At least 10 armed men broke into the premises of the high-security Nabha jail and freed six gangsters, KLF chief Mintoo on November 27.
The jailbreak was executed as per plan but Mintoo was arrested in Delhi the next day. Sekhon, who was planning to shift to Hong Kong, was arrested by the police from Moga on February 5.
The police have also presented challan against two jail officials — Bheem Singh and Jagmeet Singh — who were terminated dereliction in duty.
Besides Sekhon and Mintoo, challan was presented against Tejinder Sharma of Nabha, Bikkar Singh of Ferozepur, Palwinder Singh Pinda, Jagatvir Singh of Rampura Phul, Naresh Norang of Rajasthan, Charanpreet Singh, Harjot Singh, Ranjit Singh, Mohd Asim of Uttrarkhand, Kulpreet Singh Neeta Deol, and Sunil Kalra of Ludhiana.
The police had arrested 21 accused, including two jail officials, in the case who are lodged in the Nabha jail.
