Mumbai rains live: IMD issues 48-hour alert; traffic, flight operations affected

Schedules of flights arriving at and departing from Mumbai Airport hampered as visibility dropped to 300 metres on Wednesday morning.
MUMBAI: Normal life was thrown out of gear as heavy rains continued to lash Maharashtra’s capital city Mumbai on Wednesday morning. Waterlogging and traffic snarls were reported from several parts of the city and suburbs. Local trains were running 15- 20 minutes behind schedule. The city will witness a high tide at 4.24 pm.
Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre issues a 48-hour warning in the city and suburbs.
Suburban train services are running on all four corridors of Central Railway. However, there is delay of 10 to 15 minutes on main line between Kurla and Sion due to water logging .

Office-goers and students hit due to crawling traffic. Suburban trains running late by 15-25 minutes on the Western Railway and Central Railway. Traffic diversions observed in Parel, Dadar, Wadala, Kurla, Sion, Tilak Nagar, Andheri, Santacruz, Khar, Goregaon, Malad and other flooded pockets.
According to the BMC Disaster Control, Mumbai recorded 171.0 mm rain and suburbs notched 58.2 mm rain since midnight till 7 am on Wednesday.
Route diversion restored from Alankar Talkies to Bhendi Bazaar. The traffic was earlier being diverted via Don Taki to JJ Hospital.
Roads waterlogging reported in King’s Circle area of Mumbai:
“Suburban train services are running on all four corridors of Central Railway. However, there’s a delay of 10 to 15 minutes on main line between Kurla and Sion, due to water logging in low lying areas of this section,”said Central Railway Public Relations Officer told ANI.
Heavy shower spell expected in parts of Asangaon, Badlapur, Kalyan, Santa Cruz, Thane, Bhiwandi, Vasai, Tarapur and Dahanu during in the next one-two hours.
Last three-hour precipitation map on Google Earth shows heavy water logging in and around Mumbai.
Diversion restored on Goregaon Siddharth Hospital Traffic. The traffic was earlier diverted via Gajanan Maharaj Chowk.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued traffic advisory, check out the diverted routes here.
1. Alankar Talkies to Bhendi Bazaar traffic diverted via Don Taki to JJ Hospital.
2. SV Road National College traffic diverted via Link Road.
3. Gandhi Market traffic diverted via Bridge and Bhau Daji Lad Marg.
4. Sion Road No.24 traffic diverted via Road No. 3
5. Goregaon Siddharth Hospital Traffic Diverted via Gajanan Maharaj Chowk.

School, colleges and offices will remain open. No government announcement on closing yet.
Most trains are running normal. However, trains on Central and Western Line were running late.
In the last 3 hours, Colaba and have recorded 5 mm of rainfall. Heavy waterlogging reported from Chembur, Govandi and Mankhurd.

Railway tracks submerge at Sion railway station
Rains have caused water logging in Dadar, Kurla, Palghar and Thane.
Severe waterlogging reported from Hindmata area and Sion:
Traffic snarls was reported from several parts of the city due to water logging. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has issued an alert across the state. The Disaster Helpline Number is 1916.

The city will witness a high tide at 4.24 pm on Wednesday, with waves reaching 3.75-metre high.
In the next 24 hours, the Mumbai is experience “intermittent rain/shower with heavy falls in city and suburbs,” said the Regional Meterological Centre, Mumbai. The heavy rains, which began on Tuesday night, will continue for the next 48 hours.
