IPL 2017: Sandeep Sharma thanks Virender Sehwag for ‘4-star’ performance

12Kings XI Punjab bowler Sandeep Sharma was named Man-of-the-Match for his four wickets against Delhi Daredevils in the 2017 Indian Premier League on Sunday.
Mohali : As Sandeep Sharma leaned low on to his left to complete Shreyas Iyer’s return catch during his follow through on the last ball of the fifth over, Shaun Marsh came running to give him a hug.
Even though this was just the third of the four wickets he picked up on Sunday, Sandeep had ripped open the heart of Delhi Daredevils’ batting and his superb spell shaped Kings XI Punjab’s amazing and stunning 10-wicket win at the PCA Stadium.
Sandeep, who was made to sit on the bench in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, proved his mettle and rounded off his bowling figures 4-0-20-4. Sandeep took advantage of knowing the conditions of the home ground and used them well.
After the innings, he said, “I know how the wicket in Mohali behaves after 4 p.m. So I bowled keeping in mind certain things. Knowing that the ball swings in the evening, I bowled according to the conditions,” said Sandeep, who bagged Sam Billings, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer and Kagiso Rabada’s wickets and helped Kings XI Punjab reduce Delhi Daredevils to their lowest total of 67 all out in 17.1 overs in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Giving credit to coach Virender Sehwag, Sandeep said, “Viru paaji told me to go into the match with a positive frame of mind and aim for swing. He knew swinging the ball both ways is my strength. His inputs helped me yield results. I enjoyed bowling in such conditions.”
Ishant Sharma, who went wicketless in the last outing, was dropped against DD and Sandeep was included.
“I was not disappointed in missing out against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Viru Paaji had told me to take rest against SRH and go for the kill against DD. I am happy to have done well for my team,” concluded Sandeep, who was named Man-of-the-Match.
