Agenda in Government

(Dr Judi L Malone is seeking the nomination for the Alberta NDP in the

Edmonton-Ellerslie Constituency)

Edmonton(ATB): Candidacy and nomination races are at the heart of democracy because they
provide choice and a voice to constituents who get to determine who will be on the ballot in the
next provincial elections. Dr Judi L Malone, psychologist, and CEO, shared with Media what she
had been learning after 10 weeks of active campaigning in the Edmonton-Ellerslie Constituency
“Candidacy races help us clarify what we want, what we believe in, and the future we want for
our community,” said Malone. “And the people of Edmonton Ellerslie are speaking loud and
clear – they want well funded education for their children, an accessible public healthcare, and
an economy that benefits all citizens.”
The voices are diverse, but the messages are consistent.
Constituents are demanding high quality public education for their children. And access means
having those schools properly funded, available within communities, and with a curriculum
supported by teachers.
Constituents want healthcare kept public and know the benefits, and cost-savings, of accessible,
quality health services. That included consistent support for accessible mental health services.
And constituents were clear that a strong government balances economic strength with the social
agenda. Household after household spoke to the need for a diversified economy that works for all
citizens not just large corporations.
“Community members are aware of tax breaks to businesses while they are experiencing soring
costs of food, utilities, and insurance but no increase in income,” said Malone.
The people of Edmonton Ellerslie support a diverse and inclusive community and are committed
to a just and equal world for all. Right now, in Alberta, the stakes could not be higher. And the
people joining political parties. They are committing to come out and vote. They are informing
change. And they know that their vote matters.
“When we have more choices – when we have more innovative ideas – that is better for us as
citizens. Let us talk about the issues,” said Dr Malone. “Each and everyone of us has a vote that
matters so come out and vote for the representative who aligns with your values and beliefs, who
represents the skills and knowledge you deserve in an elected leader.”
Malone is the one of four official candidates in a contested Alberta NDP nomination race for the
riding alongside Manpreet Tiwana, incumbent Rod Loyola, and an unnamed contestant. The
election date is still pending but this has been a hotly contested nomination in the riding.
Good luck Judi and as a committed non partisan newspaper, we wish you well and to every
contestant who bring meaningful perspectives’.
