The Nannar oil refinery has become a point of contention between the two old NDA allies – Shiv Sena and the BJP.
Mumbai: Days after Shiv Sena said that it will contest future elections alone, its president Uddhav Thackeray is scheduled to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the latter’s residence on Thursday.
This is probably the first time that the Shiv Sena chief will be meeting Fadnavis after it said that there were no chances of any reconciliation with the BJP.
According to reports, the duo is likely to have a closed-door, one-on-one meeting.
The Shiv Sena is likely to meet the Chief Minister along with a delegation of local residents from Ratnagiri district who are opposing an upcoming oil refinery in the area.
The Nannar oil refinery has become a point of contention between the two old NDA allies.
The Shiv Sena, which is opposed to the refinery in coastal Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, had assured the residents of its full support on the issue.
The meeting between Uddhav Thackeray and Fadnavis will take place at 7 pm, with the first round being about the refinery.
After that, both Thackeray and Fadnavis are likely to hold the private, closed-door consultation.
This comes days after the Shiv Sena said that there was no possibility of a reconciliation with the BJP.
It said that the party is firm on fighting the coming elections single-handedly.
BJP’s estranged ally Shiv Sena had in the recent past taken post shots at the Narendra Modi government over a wide range of issues from demonetisation, rising unemployment, string of terrorist attacks to the saffron party’s ‘pakoda’ politics.
Giving a piece of advice to the ruling BJP, Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut had recently said, “In Jammu and Kashmir, soldiers are being killed on a daily basis, even hospital are being attacked. But we talk about fritters (pakoda) here.”
Cautioning the Narendra Modi government, Raut said that ”if we don’t take these issues seriously, very soon everyone will start frying ‘pakoda’ in Delhi.”
Raut made these remarks days after senior Congress leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram took pot shots at the Narendra Modi government over its tall claims on job creation and said that the present dispensation is completely ”clueless” on the issue.
