Attack on media: SSP marks inquiry to DSP on scribes’ plaint against Mann

8A delegation of journalists on Friday lodged a complaint against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Sangrur MP for inciting party volunteers to chase away mediapersons from a rally venue.
Fatehgarh Sahib senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harcharan Singh Bhullar has asked Bassi Pathana deputy superintendent to conduct an inquiry and submit a report in two days.
Mann incited AAP volunteers to throw mediapersons out of the rally venue after journalists questioned him about a sex scandal leading to ouster of an AAP minister in Delhi. Mann, who was over three hours late, went to the stage and told journalists: “I request the media to leave the pandal and they can publish whatever they want!. Moments later, party volunteers tried to snatch cameras and also manhandled journalists, who had to run out of the venue. A journalist alleged that his camera was damaged in the melee.
The district media has declared complete boycott of Mann.
JALANDHAR AAP LEADER FLAYS MANN
JALANDHAR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjab Press Club president Major Singh on Friday banned the entry of Sangrur MP and AAP leader Bhagwant Mann in the club for misbehaving with the media at Bassi Pathana on Thursday.
Major, who aspiring for AAP ticket from the Nakodar assembly segment, demanded an unconditional apology from Mann and said a first information report should be registered against him.
He also asked the party leadership to clear its stand on Mann’s behaviour. The Print and Electronic Media Association (PEMA) burnt Mann’s effigy in front of the press club.
Meanwhile, Bathinda Press Club said Bhagwant Mann wouldn’t be allowed to enter the press club until he tenders an apology to the media. Journalists of Muktsar also protested against Mann by wearing black ribbons during the party rally. Press clubs in Jalandhar Patiala and Mohali also condemned his remarks.
