Alka Lamba quits AAP, rejoins Congress

Aka Lamba joined the Congress party, hours after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party.
NEW DELHI: Hours after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party, Alka Lamba rejoined the Congress party on Friday. The Chandni Chowk MLA took to micro-blogging site Twitter to announce that she will join the grand old party in the presence of party chief Sonia Gandhi.
“Today at 6 pm, I will reach 10 Janpath and take primary membership of Congress under the leadership of Congress President Shrimati Sonia Gandhi,” she tweeted in Hindi.
She also shared a video message with AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Twitter stating that party spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj had said claimed resignation will be accepted on Twitter.
A former Congress leader, Lamba had quit the party to join AAP and won the 2015 Assembly election from Chandni Chowk. Days before the rejoining Congress, she had met Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.
The disgruntled MLA bid “goodbye” to AAP after a six-year journey on Friday.
“The time has come to say “Good Bye” to AAP and to resign from the primary membership of the Party. The past 6 years journey was a great learning for me. Thanks to all,” she tweeted.
Lamba’s resignation comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled to be held early in 2019. Former Congress party member had made headlines when she was clicked with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, hinting at an impending resignation.
On Sunday, the disgruntled AAP leader had announced her decision on Twitter to resign from the primary membership of the party and said that she will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls as an independent candidate.
Lamba has been on crossroads with AAP leadership for some time and has claimed in the past that she has been disrespected on several occasions by the party.
