25-year-old man injured after being shot by Toronto police officer multiple times: SIU – Toronto

The Special Investigations Unit says a 25-year-old man has been seriously injured after a shooting involving Toronto police early Tuesday.

The shooting happened on Sherwood Avenue, near Pharmacy Avenue, at around 2:50 a.m.

SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette told reporters that Toronto police officers initially received a call about a man in distress who was believed to have a knife.

“Officers arrived and there was an interaction,” Denette said. “A conductive energy weapon was discharged and an officer shot the man four times. The man was struck I believe three times.”

Paramedics told Global News they took a man in serious to life-threatening condition to a trauma centre.

Denette said the man is undergoing surgery. She also said the interaction happened in the basement of a home.
