Toronto police say a 12-year-old girl has died and a boy is facing a second-degree murder charge after a stabbing in Scarborough on Tuesday evening.
The stabbing happened at a residence around 6:30 p.m. in the Dundalk Drive and Antrim Crescent area, near Highway 401 and Kennedy Road.
Det. Sgt. Brandon Price told reporters they found a female youth with serious injuries and, despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead inside of the home.
A boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries, paramedics said.
Price said that male youth was released from hospital. He is now in custody.
In an update late Wednesday morning, police said a boy was charged with second-degree murder.
Due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act the boy cannot be identified due to his age.
Police did not immediately release the youth’s exact age.
