Two Mathura jewellers shot dead: UP CM Yogi Adityanath gives 3 days to police to crack case, local trader call for bandh

5Mathura: Local traders in Mathura have called for a bandh on Wednesday, a day after two jewellers were shot dead and gold worth Rs 4 crore were looted.
The Mathura traders association has demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the loot and murder of the two jewellers last evening.
The market in Mathura would remain closed today, and if there is no prompt action, it may be extended, Sunil Agrawal of the Nagar Udyog Vyapaar Mandal had warned.
The traders’ body has also demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh and jobs for the kin of the deceased.
The incident occurred in the Koyalawali Gali area on Monday night when six armed men, who came on motorbikes, barged into the jewellery shops in the market, falling under Kotwali Police station limits, and opened fire.
Two local traders, identified as Vikas and Megh, were killed, while two others were injured and hospitalised.
The entire incident was caught on the CCTV installed inside the shops and the footage is being examined by the police for leads in the case.
Expressing anger over the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the UP DGP Sulkhan Singh to visit the holy town and investigate why there have been no arrests so far.
The top cop is likely to visit the area at 11am. State Power Minister Srikant Sharma is likely to accompany him.
“I want to assure the house that the rule of law will prevail in Uttar Pradesh. There will be absolutely no protection for criminals in the state,” Yogi Adityanath said inside the UP Assembly.
Meanwhile, Sub-inspector Prateek Kumar, in-charge of the police outpost in Holi Gate, and two constables have been suspended, Superintendent of Police (city) Ashok Kumar said, adding that local police officials have been given three days to crack the case.
