Pervez Musharraf warns of counter strike as India weighs response to Pakistan for Uri attack

2New Delhi: Former Pakistan president and the alleged architect of the 1999 KargilWar, General Pervez Musharraf, has threatened India of Pakistani counter strike if New Delhi resorted to any military retaliation to the dastardly terror attack in Uri.
“The persons who are talking about military retaliation – including your DGMO, your defence minister – should understand the consequences. The DGMO should learn a lesson of military that you have to wargame it till the end, ” Musharraf had told CNN-News18.
If you strike at the time and place of your choosing, we will strike back at the time and place of our choosing as well. It doesn’t stop at your action; what will follow should also be considered,” he added.
Speaking exclusively from his London residence, Musharraf categorically denied that the Pakistan Army-propped Jaish-e-Mohammed was responsible for the Uri attack.
“I don’t know the basis of him (Indian DGMO Lt General Ranbir Singh) saying this within hours of the attack. And in any case the statements the DGMO gave were offensive,” he said, adding that India always blames Pakistan and its military for any attack in Kashmir.
When quizzed specifically on how Islamabad can wash its hands off the matter since the evidence found at the Uri attack site includes Pakistan Army issue I-com wireless sets, Musharraf claimed they can be “bought from anywhere”.
Musharraf also claimed that JeM was not at all active in Pakistan and the establishment there is taking actions as required in accordance with their domestic requirement.
In a big blow for Pakistan, a bipartisan group of two powerful American lawmakers has introduced an act in the US House of Representatives to designate Pakistan a State Sponsor of terrorism.
“It is time we stopped paying Pakistan for its betrayal and designate it for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism,” said Congressman Ted Poe, who is Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism.
The ‘Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act’ (HR 6069) has been introduced by Republican Poe along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of the Democratic Party, who is Ranking member of this influential Congressional Committee on terrorism.
