India vs England, 2nd Test: Spinners shine as Virat Kohli & Co thrash visitors by 246 runs to take 1-0 lead

4After the first Test ended in a draw, Indian team bounced back to thrash England by 246 runs.
Visakhapatnam: Virat Kohli led-India defeated England by 246 runs in the second Test to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Indian spinners once again rose to the occasion as R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav picked six of the eight wickets that fell on Day 5.
Resuming play on 87/2, India picked a wicket as early in the sixth over of the day when Ashwin removed Ben Duckett once again. It was the start of another collapse for England as none of the batsmen looked convincing enough against quality Indian spin.
Joe Root (25) and Jonny Bairstow (34) were the only two English batsmen who scored in double figures.
Root stay at the crease was an interesting one. He was first dropped by Virat Kohli on 10 followed by another incident where DRS saved him. But he was finally trapped in front of the wicket by Shami, and despite going for another review, it could not save him.
Jayant Yadav, who did not get too many opportunities to bowl with Ashwin and Jadeja in full rhythm, struck in his first over of the day as he clean bowled the dangerous Ben Stokes.
In pursuit of an uphill victory target of 405, England finished the day at 87 for 2, thanks to a dogged defiance from skipper Cook and young Haseeb Hameed, who brought back memories of Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers’ ‘batathon’ at the Feroz Shah Kotla, last year.
The third Test is scheduled to be played at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali from November 26.
