Honeypreet held after a month on the run, to be produced in court today

4The spiralling violence, which gripped several cities and towns in Punjab and Haryana after the conviction, left 41 people dead and scores of others injured.
New Delhi: Honeypreet Singh, the controversial adopted daughter of Dera chief who was taken into custody on Tuesday after she remained underground for over a month, will be produced before a Panchkula court on Wednesday, the police said.
The Haryana Police had put her on its list of 43 most wanted people after the Dera supporters went on a rampage on August 25 following Ram Rahim’s conviction by a CBI court in a rape case. He was given 20-year jail two days later.
The spiralling violence, which gripped several cities and towns in Punjab and Haryana after the conviction, left 41 people dead and scores of others injured, prompting the administration to issue non-bailable arrest warrants against several people, including Honeypreet, for inciting the mob.
Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, was arrested from Zirakpur-Patiala road, hours after she appeared on two private television channels interacting with the reporters at some undisclosed location.
“We just want to go into the details of the violence that took place in Panchkula, and hence, will be interrogating her for the same. She will be produced before a court tomorrow,” Police Commissioner A S Chawla said.
The police will also interrogate her about her whereabouts after the August 25 violence. “We will investigate about it soon, but it will take some time,” he said.
Honeypreet will be produced before a court in Panchkula tomorrow where police will seek her remand, he added.
Chawla said another woman was accompanying Honeypreet at the time of her arrest.
“Honeypreet was travelling in an Innova SUV and was accompanied by another woman,” the police commissioner said.
“Who supported whom, who did the wrong, which all places did she hide and who gave her shelter, all these things will come to the fore when we question her at length,” he said.
The Haryana Police had been facing flak from several quarters for not being able to nab Honeypreet for over a month despite having launched a massive hunt to trace her.
The Haryana Police had on September 1 issued a lookout notice against Honeypreet Insan and another key aide Aditya Insan following apprehensions that they might try to “escape from the country”.
