Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck tabled PrivateMembers’ Bill 203,

Edmonton (ATB): MLA Nolan Dyck met ethnic media on March 18, 2024 at Edmonton
and briefed about his Private Members’’ Bill 203, the Foreign Credential Advisory
Committee Act, to create a more streamlined and efficient credential advisory system.
The purpose of Bill 203 is to create an Alberta Foreign Credential Advisory Committee
that would advocate for and make recommendations to create a more streamlined and
efficient credential advisory system.
This committee would be the first of its kind in Canada and would give Alberta an
advantage over other provinces when it comes to attracting and recognizing the talents
of skilled workers.
This committee would also review the rules that govern the recognition of foreign
credentials and make recommendations on how to improve the process for recognizing
foreign credentials, especially for professions with current and anticipated labour
shortages.
He emphasized that several key sectors such as health care, construction trades, home
builders, and IT services are expected to have a labour shortage of over 3,000 workers
by 2030 convinced him to come out with this Bill.
The committee would be made up by 13 members from the following ministries, up to 4
seats, one of which will be the chair – Immigration and Multiculturalism, up to 4 seats –
Advanced Education, up to 3 Seats – Health, up to 1 Seat – Jobs, Economy and Trade
and up to 1 Seat – Technology and Innovation.
Bill 203 is similar to the Ontario’s government’s Bill 6, the Foreign Credentials Advisory
Committee Act that sought to establish a committee to review the legislation and other
rules that govern the recognition of foreign credentials in Ontario and make
recommendations on how to improve the recognition of foreign credentials in Ontario.
However, Bill 6 but was not passed.
Good luck Nolan for your private members’ Bill 203 and your thoughtful initiative to
serve Albertans is highly appreciative.
