Four jostle for CPC nomination in Edmonton Southeast

 

Edmonton(ATB): CPC (Conservative Party of Canada) has cleared four names to contest nomination in Federal Edmonton Southeast constituency.

It is a mix of rookie as well as candidates with political background.

David Bhatti, Jagsharan Mahal, Naresh Bhardwaj and Jaspreet Saggu are the contenders.

David Bhatti is a lifelong political and legal advocate working to protect and advance individual liberties, human dignity, and responsible government.

David holds a B.A. in Philosophy and an LL. B with first-class honours specializing in international human rights law.

He has served as an advisor and parliamentary assistant to conservative politicians in Edmonton and across Canada fighting for free speech, sensible spending, and local jobs and industry. 

He has also worked with Canadian charities and NGOs on the private sponsorship and resettlement of refugees in Canada and has lobbied for immigration and foreign policy reforms in Ottawa.

David’s international experience includes serving as an advisor to conservative lawmakers in the United Kingdom and the United States. He has also contributed to legal cases before international human rights courts around the world.

He is currently serving as an advisor to an Edmonton-area Member of Parliament.

Jagsharan Singh Mahal is a lawyer with a passion about the affordable access to justice. He has served as duty counsel, acted for low- and no-income clients

through Legal Aid Alberta and ECLC, Edmonton. He believes all jobs are equal and takes pride in sharing that he started his life in Canada as a cleaning worker, then as a driver, yet always working towards his goal to get his qualification as a lawyer recognized in Canada. He came to Canada in December 2008.

Naresh Bhardwaj was elected in the 2008 provincial election to represent the electoral district of Edmonton-Ellerslie in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. He is a member of the Progressive Conservatives and CPC and was Associate Minister of Persons with Disabilities in the cabinet of Jim Prentice.

Bhardwaj ran 2012 provincial election as an incumbent PC candidate, winning a second term on April 23, 2012. He did not run in the 2015 general election.

He was made Associate Minister of Persons with disabilities in 2013.

Jaspreet Saggu came to Canada as an immigrant from India and proudly call Edmonton Southeast as his home. He owns and operates a successful trucking business in Alberta. Also, Director for SEWA (Selfless Edmontonian Welfare Association), a local non-profit organization

He has also coached youth in local basketball in the South East.
