Former Congress minister Bhupinder Lally joins SAD ahead of Shahkot bypoll

Lally was among five Congress leaders who had sought a “non-controversial” candidate for Shahkot bypolls.
Former Punjab minister and senior Congress leader Brij Bhupinder Lally joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Jalandharon Friday.
SAD president and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was also present at the event. Earlier, Lally was among five Congress leaders who had sought a “non-controversial” candidate for Shahkot bypolls.
“Our party came to power on the agenda of ending corruption and mafia raj, especially against sand mafia and drugs. Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Shahkot bypoll is important. If we field a controversial leader, even campaigning for him will be difficult,” said the five leaders, who included Lalli, PPCC spokesperson Navjot Dahiya, general secretary Rajanbir Singh, District Congress Committee (Rural) president Capt Harminder Singh and district farmer cell in charge Puran Singh Thind.
