Earthquake measuring 5.1 hits Taiwan

This is the second major earthquake in Taiwan’s Hualien County since February when a 6.4 earthquake killed at least nine and left thousands homeless.
An earthquake measuring 5.1 struck Taiwan on Wednesday morning with emergency services in the country’s Hualien County being pressed into service almost immediately after.
According to USGS, the earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, struck in the morning hours with its epicentre around 74 kilometers from Hualien City. While there has been no reports of loss of life or damage to property, it is learnt that emergency services have been pressed into action considering the scale of another earthquake which had struck the country in February.
A 6.4 earthquake had struck the same province in February which resulted in the death of at least nine and left many homeless. There was enormous loss to property with close to a thousand being shifted to temporary shelters. Locals said the number of aftershocks felt after the earthquake was unusual in an area where tremors are otherwise not uncommon.
