BJP national president Amit Shah reaches Chandigarh, begins roadshow

As part of his countrywide 95-day tour which began from Jammu in April, BJP national president Amit Shah reached Chandigarh on a two-day visit on Saturday.
Shah arrived at Chandigarh International Airport at 10.40am. UT mayor, president of BJP city unit and around 1,000 party workers welcomed him while children performed Bhangra.
From there, he went to join the road show from Sector 48, that went through Sectors 47, 46, and 45 and the Sector-33/45 crossing en route to Kamlam, the party office in Sector 33.
He was escorted to BJP office by a cavalcade of 200 vehicles. The local unit of BJP welcomed the national president at all the five round abouts, where he halted briefly for 2 minutes each.
Around 1,000 cops have been deputed for Shah’s security.
Mayor Asha Jaswal and women from the party’s mahila wing welcomed Shah at the Chandigarh BJP office.
The BJP leader will inaugurate the newly-renovated hi-tech BJP office in the city.
He will also unveil the statue of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) icon Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, whose birth centenary is being celebrated. He will also inaugurate a library named after Nanaji Deshmukh and an e-library.
Later, he will hold a series of meetings with party workers, office-bearers and councillors to review the party’s organisational activities.
From 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Shah will interact with the media at Press Club in Sector 27 and take part in a conference at Law Bhawan in Sector 37 from 5pm to 6.30.
On May 7, as a part of his tour to the states where BJP needs to strengthen its position, Shah reached Tripura on a two-day tour.
Earlier in April, he visited Jammu and Kashmir on a two-day visit as part of his national ‘ Vistaar Yatra’.
Shah is on a 95-day all-India tour, during which he will strategise on ways to win the 2019 Lok Sabha election, with focus on clinching 120 seats where the party had lost in 2014.
Shah will spend one to three days in each state. The tour will focus on taking stock of the party’s organisational strength and further expansion of electoral appeal across the country.
Shah is particularly focusing on states like West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana and Kerala.
The BJP had managed to win just 4 Lok Sabha seats out of the 102 in these states in the 2014 election.
The BJP chief’s voyage will end by September 25, the 101th birth anniversary of Jana Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
Apart from his 95-day tour, Shah has also chosen five states where he will spend three days each. His recent visit to West Bengal a was part of the programme.
