Toronto police say a 30-year-old man has died and two others have been injured after a triple shooting on a sidewalk in the downtown area early Thursday.

Det. Sgt. Trevor Grieve, from Toronto’s homicide unit, said the shooting happened out front of an establishment near Queen and Portland streets at around 2:30 a.m.

Paramedics told Global News two people were taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and a third was taken in critical condition.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old man died in hospital, Grieve said.

Grieve said it is too early in the investigation to determine if the shooting was targeted or random.

“I don’t know the relationship between the parties … there might have been an interaction that happened earlier. I’m not sure yet,” Grieve said.

Grieve said the suspect vehicle is described as a dark, two-door sedan. He also said investigators believe shots were fired on the sidewalk and the suspect vehicle arrived to and from the shooting area.
