4Dehradun: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Trivendra Singh Rawat was sworn in as Uttarakhand Chief Minister on Saturday.
56-year-old Rawat and nine ministers were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Krishna Kant Paul.
Nine ministers also took oath. Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Madan Kaushik, Arvind Pandey, Subodh Uniyal, Yashpal Arya, Prakash Pant, Rekha Arya and Dhan Singh Rawat were made Cabinet ministers.
Former RSS pracharak Trivendra Singh Rawat was elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and a host of senior leaders Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister Uma Bharti attended the grand ceremony at the Parade Ground in Dehradun.
Congress leader and former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat also attended Trivendra Singh’s swearing-in ceremony.
The BJP decimated the Congress in the Assembly election, winning 57 of the 70 seats.
A former associate of now Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rawat was Agriculture Minister in the previous BJP government in Uttarakhand, which was carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000.
Rawat will be sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of the hill state at a grand ceremony at the Parade Grounds in the presence of Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
The political acumen and organisational skills of Rawat (56) were evident in the manner he guided the party to an impressive win in the Jharkhand assembly elections in 2014 as BJP in-charge of the state.
Rawat was elected in the presence of party observers and senior leaders from Delhi — Tomar, Saroj Pandey, Dharmendra Pradhan, Shyam Jaju and J.P. Nadda — as well as Uttarakhand BJP President Ajay Bhatt.
