Out on bail, sacrilege accused woman shot dead in Ludhiana

9Unidentified assailants shot dead a woman who was, in 2015, accused of committing sacrilege. The incident took place in Alamgir, outside the village gurdwara, on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, 48-year old Balwinder Kaur, was a resident of Ghawaddi village.
Back in October 2015, Balwinder and ‘granthi’ Sikandar were booked under sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after 20 pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were found torn. she was allowed bail in December, 2015.
Ludhiana commissioner of police Jatinder Singh Aulakh told the media that the woman had got a telephone call on Monday from some people to come to Alamgir for a meeting.
“She came here today and spoke to the people for about 45 minutes. She was shot dead from close range,” Aulakh said.
