Kejriwal must resign, Congress and BJP attack AAP over MLA disqualification row

Leaders of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have demanded Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, hours after 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators were disqualified by the Election Commission of India on Friday.
NEW DELHI: Hours after 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators were disqualified by the Election Commission of India, Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders demanded Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation on Friday.
During a press brief, Congress leader Ajay Maken said, “Kejriwal Ji doesn’t have the moral right to stay on his post. He must resign. Congress will carry out a ‘jan aandolan’ regarding the same.”
Reiterating similar views, BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra questioned, “From ‘India against Corruption’ to ‘I am Corruption’, Aam Aadmi Party has covered the journey in a short time. Do they still have morality to stay in government in Delhi?”
In a major setback to AAP, the Election Commision recommended the disqualification of 20 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the party for allegedly holding offices of profit as Parliamentary Secretaries.
The EC has sent the recommendations to President Ram Nath Kovind, said sources.
Accusing the EC of witch-hunt, Kejriwal said that the poll panel ‘never touched this low’.
AAP has already approached the Delhi High Court over the issue.
“The EC should not be the letterbox of the PMO. But that is the reality today,” Ashutosh tweeted. “A person like me who has covered EC as a reporter during (T N) Seshan days, today I can say EC has never touched so low ever,” the scribe-turned politician added.
