Chandigarh : The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday admitted for hearing Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s appeal against his conviction in the rape cases.
The self-styled godman was held guilty of raping two female sadhvis by a special CBI court on August 25, leading to large-scale violence in Panchkula and Sirsa.
The high court has asked Ram Rahim to deposit the Rs 30 lakh-fine and compensation to the special CBI court.
CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh had on August 28 awarded 10 year jail each to Gurmeet Ram Rahim for raping two dera followers in a case dating back to 2002. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 15 lakh in each of the two cases, of which Rs 14 lakh each would go to the two victims.
