Ahmedabad: Ahead of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah will on Tuesday kick-start BJP’s mass contract drive, ‘Gujarat Gaurav Maha-Sampark Abhiyan’, in an attempt to maximise its reach to voters across the state.
The ‘abhiyan’ would continue till November 12, under the 50,000-odd polling booths.
The BJP members would visit households across the state to canvass for the party.
Shah will launch the ‘abhiyan’ from his constituency Naranpura.
The BJP workers will try to visit every household and educate the electorate regarding party’s development model.
Gujarat will go to polls on December 9 and 14. Counting of votes in the Gujarat Assembly Polls would be held on December 18.
During the drive, the party would distribute publicity materials and a leaflet carrying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to voters.
State leaders, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani, would take part in the drive.
BJP heavyweights and Union Ministers Smriti Irani, JP Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman, VK Singh, Mansukh Mandaviya and Prakash Javadekar would participate and in the ‘abhiyan’.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Manmohan Singh is set to visit poll-bound Gujarat on Tuesday. He is expected to interact with traders and businessmen on issues like GST and current situation of economy.
Ahead of his visit, the Congress leader attacked the Narendra Modi government over its economic policies like demonetisation. Terming the notes ban as a “catastrophic economic policy”, Singh warned that the move would aggravate inequalities and prove to be a “far greater social malaise” in a diverse country like India.
