Ex-bureaucrat, son found dead months after wife, daughter killed themselves

A former bureaucrat whose wife and daughter committed suicide in July after he was arrested on corruption charges killed himself on Tuesday, television reports said. Former corporate affairs director general BK Bansal’s son was also found dead.
Bansal’s 58-year-old wife Satya Bala and daughter Neha, 28, were found hanging from ceiling fans of two rooms at Neelkanth Apartment in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area in July.
Suicide notes written by the mother and daughter said they took the extreme step because of humiliation caused by CBI officials during search operations at Bansal’s residence.
Bansal’s son, Yogesh, was missing since the raid at his place. He was working as a real estate agent. Deputy commissioner of police (East) Rishipal said Bansal and his son were found dead at their house in Neelkanth Apartment in Mayur Vihar Phase I. “We are probing the case. Bansal was on bail,” he said.
Bansal was arrested by the CBI in July for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9 lakh from representatives of a Mumbai firm to not order an investigation into allegations that it had duped 24,000 investors of Rs 176 crore.
Taking note of the unfortunate events that took place in his family after his arrest, a special CBI court granted bail to Bansal in August.
“We will speak to relatives and neighbours. As of now, we do not suspect foul play. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” Rishipal said.
Being the senior-most officer in the Corporate Law Service of India, Bansal was the authority that gave technical advice to the government on such issues and had, therefore, received the ministry probe’s inspection report. But he did not act on its recommendations, a source said.
