Native Village/ Country parent’s background
My native village is Ramgarh Chungan, District Muktsar, Punjab, India.
However, I was raised at Ludhiana, Punjab, where both my parents were
posted for the majority of their working life. My father, Sardar Harmander
Singh Brar, has retired as a Chief Welfare Officer, Punjab State Power
Corporation and my mother, Sardarni Gurangpal Kaur was a Punjabi
Lecturer.
Your early education
I completed my early schooling at Ludhiana, and then completed Bachelor
of Arts as well as Laws (Honours) from Guru Nanak Dev University,
Punjab, India.
When and why you came to Canada
I came to Canada in 2009 after graduating from Law School to pursue my
Legal career here.
Your career enhancement initiatives, volunteer work and present
occupation
I am currently practicing as a Lawyer with Dentons Canada LLP, a leading
law firm in Canada and world’s largest law firm, with a focus primarily in the
areas of estate planning, estate administration, estate litigation,
guardianships and trusteeships. I also sit on the Board of AdaptAbilities, a
not-for-profit organization that helps individuals with special needs and
diverse abilities, and their families, by delivering essential programs.
Your regret in life
I am not a kind of person who holds regrets in life. I believe in learning from
mistakes, pursuing positivity, avoiding negative thoughts and moving on.
Pick any one of your best achievements
If I have to pick, I am very proud of being ranked 2 nd in Law School
Entrance Exam of the State of Punjab. That was my first big achievement
and I still cherish it.
Were you ever discriminated?
Nope.
Are you happy in Canada?
Absolutely! I am very happy and content with my life here.

Any comments on Canada’s culture
Canada is an inclusive, diverse and welcoming country. People are
generally respectful and tolerant. The focus towards families and
community is invaluable.
Any comments on Canada’s weather
The winter weather is harsh but I have become used to it. All you need is
appropriate clothing and a positive mindset to embrace change. Otherwise,
Canadian four seasons are full of enjoyment.
What brought you success in Canada
Patience and Hard work. There are no shortcuts to success. Of course, the
unflinching support of my significant half, Amarbir Singh Teja enabled me
to accomplish my career goals.
Are you willing to help new immigrants and how?
Hundred percent. For very many years, I have provided free notary
services to Seniors and Low Income individuals/ newcomers.
Your message for Canadians of Asian origin?
Believe in yourself and keep going. You are in the country of opportunities
and if you work towards your goals with discipline, you will get where you
want to be, and may even exceed your own expectations. Canada provides
the level playground for all. I encourage everyone and particularly ladies to
set your professional and personal goals and address them with focused
approach. Give back to society in any way you can.
