Akali leader’s bus runs couple over in Ferozepur, man dies, wife critical

11A private bus owned by a transport company of Gidderbaha Akali leader Hardeep Singh ‘Dimpy’ Dhillon crushed a motorcycle borne couple in Zira, a sub division of Ferozepur, on Monday. The husband, Avtar Singh died on the spot while his wife was critical. The driver abandoned the bus and fled from the spot.
The bus (PB-30-R-1078) belonging to New Deep Transport Company was on its way to Bathinda when a couple riding on a bike towards Muktsara village was hit near Behak Gujjran village on the Ferozepur-Zira road in Zira.
The motorcyclist who collapsed on the spot was later identified as Avtar Singh of Manina Wala village in Muktsar district but details of his wife who was admitted to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, could not be ascertained.
“We are awaiting the statement of the victim or their family member and accordingly a case against bus driver will be registered. The bus has been impounded,” said Davinder Parkash, Station House Officer, Zira. Youth Congress leader and MLA from Gidderbaha, Arminder Singh Raja Warring, expressed solidarity with the victim family.
“It has almost become a routine affair that common man is being crushed under the wheels of buses of transport companies owned by akali leaders in various parts of state,” said Warring.
“There must be a probe to check the capabilities and training of drivers of these transport companies which have become killing machines,” said Gidderbaha Congress MLA. Dhillon is Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) halqa in-charge of Gidderbaha and a confidant of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Earlier too, a bus belonging to Dhillon’s company ran over a teenage girl at Channu village in Muktsar, on December 11, last year.
